Getting Started

Keep going! It will take years before you are ready and can brave the public, but if you have serious goals, remember that joining an orchestra and being a part of a greater collective experience is turly amazing.

The more you practice, the better you get, but equally, take small breaks in between so that you return to the instrument fresh and even better than before.

Initially, learning the string names, where the fingers go, the correct position to stand...etc are alll big issues but soon fade to grey and you become accustomed to them really quickly.

Get a good teacher, who has experience and also plays with an orchestra. The violin is definatly not a self taught instrument. Even virtuoes have tutors and it is the best way to continue playing well. Eeven Vanessa Mae has a tutor.
